Like most businesses, your workload will ebb and flow depending on the season. With summer approaching, many clients and prospects take a step back from their financial focus to take advantage of the warm weather. Between kids having the summer off and vacations to the beach being at the forefront, advisors tend to be a little slower between June and August. Here are a few suggestions to keep your business moving forward during this quieter season.
Review New Compliance Regulations
Compliance…every advisor’s favorite task! Whether it be your back offices' policies or a regulator like FINRA or SEC, compliance rules are continuously changing. For example, the SEC recently changed their investment adviser marketing rules, and their terminology of “solicitation” has been replaced with the term “promoter.” They started allowing more opportunities for advisors to use and give testimonials, which opens many more doors for advisors when it comes to marketing their practice. Mike Kitces wrote a great article explaining these changes. If you spend some downtime understanding these compliance updates, you can be the first to start implementing them in your business.
Continuing Education
We know that continuing education can be tedious. Still, we suggest spending some downtime researching CE credits that satisfy your requirements while also educating you on topics that you find interesting. For example, Ed Slott hosts multiple two-day workshops throughout the year that may fulfill your CE credit requirements. You can find a list of Ed’s CE credits here. Don’t wait until the last minute to research these credits. Spend this time finding the perfect credits that meet your needs and fulfill your interests.
Record and Rebroadcast Educational Workshops
We mentioned that many clients and prospects like to vacation during these summer months, but we also know that advisors like to enjoy the nice weather too! If you would rather spend your summer at the beach or on the golf course, rebroadcasting workshops may be a great option for you. This means that you can prerecord an educational webinar and broadcast these workshops to new prospective clients… all while you are shooting the back 9! White Glove offers Done-For-You webinars so you can pick up clients while also working on your tan.
Don’t waste these slow months. You could be setting yourself up for great success come fall if you use this time wisely. We also suggest getting a jump on nurturing your leads and engaging your clients with email marketing and client newsletters. The best part is, you can spend your summer relaxing or traveling, and we do the work for you!
